Believe it or not, but it took us a while to ask ourselves that question. We spent months driving out to the mall, book store, furniture store, and anywhere else we could think of to actively prospect people for our business.

Endlessly spamming social media with links to their opportunity…”Ground Level Opportunity”, “Fast cash! Free to join! It costs you NOTHING!”, “I’m looking for 5 people who want to make a easy $300-$1500 DAILY!!!”, blah, blah, blah…
We didn’t want to be one of “those people” that everyone blocks, mutes, and unfriends because everyone is tired of seeing their spam posts all over the place.
Not only that, but we’re not really “hypey” people. We didn’t want to bring in a bunch of people by promising “free money”, knowing that succeeding would take a lot of hard work.

Attracting The Right Kind Of Prospect

Another concern we had was the type of person we’d be attracting into our business by promising fast, easy, free money. Do you think someone responding to a post like that is going to want to do any work? Nope.
Plus, we had been in the business long enough to know that there is no such thing as fast, easy, free money. Building a real business (even a home business) that is profitable takes time, hard work, and dedication.
So the question we really needed answered was, “how do we generate high quality network marketing leads online?”
In other words, how do we find people online who understand what it takes to build a profitable home business and are willing to join us?

Lead Generation vs Pitching and Selling

The first thing we had to understand was that there’s a BIG difference between what we saw everyone else doing (i.e. spamming their opportunity everywhere) and generating network marketing leads online.
Spamming social media with your opportunity is NOT lead generation. It’s pitching and selling. And the reason it’s so ineffective is because people hate being sold. They love to buy things, but they hate being sold.
People don’t log into social media to get pitched and sold on stuff. They’re on social media to socialize and consume content.
The thing that most people don’t realize is that people who have actually been successful in building their business online never pitch their products or opportunity up front. The only thing they use social media and the internet for is to generate network marketing leads. And you don’t generate leads by pitching and selling people upfront.

Attracting Leads With Value

Whether you’re actively prospecting people on social media or generating leads on autopilot with some leveraged tools, one thing is always true…the best way to generate network marketing leads online is to offer them something of value that they want and are looking for.
For example, there’s a big difference between hitting someone over the head with a spam ad for protein shakes vs offering them a free e-book of protein shake recipes. You’ll get a lot more people offering you their contact information to get that free e-book than you will by spamming them with MLM ads.
